ABOUT NAOMI
As a freelance editor and writing coach, I take a holistic and compassionate approach to working with clients. I believe in the power of language to tell compelling stories while marketing work effectively. I approach editing, writing, and overall communication practices from a socially conscious, critical, and engaged perspective.
I seek to empower those who want to hone their writing skills, whether in academic, arts-based, or plain-language contexts. I have over a decade of experience teaching critical reading, writing, and research, and I am well-versed in academic argumentation and all common referencing styles and requirements of North American scholarship. I hold a PhD in Gender, Feminist, and Women's Studies from York University, and I have been trained in copy editing, proofreading, and structural and stylistic editing through George Brown College.
I'm always working to stay informed about current practices in language use, especially as it relates to representations in/of marginalized communities. As part of my commitment to equity and access, I also offer sliding scale rates for unemployed and underemployed folks, including graduate students, artists, those facing accessibility barriers, and those who identify as LGBTQ and/or BIPOC.
