About Naomi
As a freelance editor and writing coach, I take a holistic and compassionate approach to working with clients. I believe in the power of language to tell compelling stories while marketing work effectively. I approach editing, writing, and overall communication practices from a socially conscious, critical, and engaged perspective.

I seek to empower those who want to hone their writing skills, whether in academic, arts-based, or plain-language contexts. I have over a decade of experience teaching critical reading, writing, and research, and I am well-versed in academic argumentation and all common referencing styles and requirements of North American scholarship. I hold a PhD in Gender, Feminist, and Women's Studies from York University, and I have been trained in copy editing, proofreading, structural and stylistic editing through George Brown College.

I'm always working to stay informed about current practices in language use, especially as it relates to representations in/of marginalized communities. As a queer person who brings a feminist anti-racist practice to all my endeavours, I understand the importance of thoughtful and clear communication. As part of my commitment to equity and access, I also offer sliding scale rates for unemployed and underemployed folks, including graduate students, artists, those facing accessibility barriers, and those who identify as LGBTQ and/or BIPOC.

Pronouns: She/her/hers.
“Naomi has supported me with editing, writing, and thought organization for over a decade. Her ability to assist me in structuring my writing has helped me through multiple university degrees. She provides direction and insight in kind and manageable ways. She understands the difficulties that come with what it means to be a writer/academic and treats all of her clients with respect and care. Her skill has ensured that my work reaches the next level of professionalism and accessibility.”

“Naomi was extremely thorough and communicative throughout the process of formatting the bibliography for my book. I gave her pages of sources in many different formats, with missing information, and she turned it around into a perfect APA reference list within my tight deadline of 24 hours. I highly recommend Naomi for work that necessitates a high degree of attention to detail.”
— Lee (Kingston, ON)
“I’ve worked with Naomi on multiple projects, from a dissertation manuscript, to a book, to various arts grants. Naomi is a steadfast and diligent collaborator who is easy to work with, skilled, and ever-confident in her linguistic and style-based interventions. Naomi is highly attuned to the macro-view of any given project, and then articulates micro choices to enhance and deepen the final results. Her questions are thoughtful and challenging, always posed as a way to strengthen the work. I would hire Naomi on every single one of my writing projects if I could. (Is there a price quote for that?)”

“I've been fortunate to have Naomi work with me on a long writing project that involved both copy editing and more thorough structural editing. I had never worked with an editor before, and I was unsure of what to expect. However, Naomi's attention to detail and suggestions for structural edits were very helpful and have had a huge impact on my writing. I recommend Naomi highly for anyone who is feeling overwhelmed with the minutiae of tackling edits on a major project.”
